What is SONICA's Warranty?

Did you know?

  • Intel Dual Core processors are available with 1MB cache per core (800 series) and 2MB cache per core (900) series. Sonica workstations feature the Intel 900 series processor. The 900 series processors run at lower temperatures and the extra cache memory translates into lower audio latencies?

Why do I get more system features at a lower price when I buy from SONICA?

  • Sonica systems are sold direct to you bypasing the dealer channel. Therefore, we don't have to add a dealer profit and/or marketing rep. fee. We pass these savings on to you.

SONICA computers have faster processors, XMS II memory, high end power supplies and more disk storage than competing products. What do I loose if I don't buy a Sonica workstation?

  • Money
  • The ability to run at lower latencies
  • The ability to run more plug-ins and VST instruments
  • Stability, as a better built and more powerful computer is more stable

Can I upgrade my SONICA workstation?

  • Absolutely, system boards, hard disks, memory, CPUs and video cards can be upgraded.

  • Yes, all SONICA workstations support RAID technology.

Are SONICA audio workstations VISTA ready?

  • Yes, all SONICA audio workstations are ready for the next operating system, VISTA.

How can I benefit from Dual Core technology?

  • Dual core is two full processor cores in one package delivering the power of a dual processor system. Dual Core translates into; I can run more plug-ins and VST instruments at much lower latencies!
  • Dual Core is probably the most significant advance in PC technology in many years and offers many benefits to audio production professionals.
  • When running "Dual Processor" enabled applications (Nuendo 3, Cubase SX 3 and SONAR 5, "Dual Core" processors make single processor Pentium 4 systems obsolete for audio production.

Can I use my SONICA workstation for tasks other than audio production?

  • Yes you can, our audio optimization process does not prevent other non-audio applications from running.

How quiet are SONICA system designs?

  • Single CPU system designs are 25 db (A) quiet.

Points of Reference *measured in dBA or decibels

I have been told that the best way to increase performance is to add as much memory as possible. Is this true?

  • The above statement is a myth. The best way to increase performance is by getting the fastest processor available. Many systems work very well with 1GB RAM. Windows XP will not address more than 2.7GB of RAM and most applications will not address more than 2GB of RAM. As an example, Cubase SX 3 and Nuendo only address 1.8GB of RAM. When all the DAW applications are ported to run on 64 bit Windows, this memory limitation will go away.

How will SONAR users benefit from 64-bit technology?

  • SONAR 5 x64 Edition allows access to 1 terabyte (1024 GB) of RAM, well beyond the current 2 GB limit offered by today's 32-bit applications. This provides users with nearly unlimited potential for working with RAM intensive projects that make extensive use of samplers and numerous audio loops and tracks.
  • SONAR 5 x64 Edition provides users with the ability to load large sample banks, libraries, and audio clips into RAM, thereby eliminating the latency introduced by disk streaming.
  • SONAR 5 x64 Edition sees CPU performance benefits from the increased number of internal registers included with x64 processors.

What audio interfaces does SONAR 5 x64 Edition currently support?

SONAR 5 x64 Edition requires 64-bit audio drivers, currently available from the following hardware manufacturers:

  • Edirol has 64-bit drivers for the following devices: UA-1000, UA-25, UM-880, UM-1 series, PCR series. Visit www.cakewalk.com/x64/edirolx64.asp to download a 64-bit driver for these devices.
  • E-MU has 64-bit drivers for the E-MU Digital Audio System Series (0404 / 1212M / 1616 / 1616M / 1820 / 1820M). Visit E-MU at preview.creativelabs.com/emu to download 64-bit drivers for these devices.
  • Creative Labs has a 64-bit driver for the SoundBlaster Live/Audigy/Audigy 2 Series. Visit Creative Labs at preview.creativelabs.com to download a 64-bit driver for these sound cards.
  • M-Audio offers a complete set of 64-bit beta drivers for their Delta and FireWire product lines. Visit M-Audio at www.m-audio.com/audio64beta/ to download a 64-bit driver for your M-Audio interface.
  • RME Fireface.
  •  More to come.

What if my favorite plug-in manufacturer does not provide 64-bit versions?

  • This is where SONAR 5’s BitBridge™ comes in. BitBridge enables the use of 32-bit VST effects and instruments in SONAR’s 64-bit environment. BitBridge technology extends the viability and use of your favorite VST plug-ins; ensures future compatibility of freeware, even for the most obscure, independently developed shareware plug-ins.

Cubase/Nuendo Information about Windows XP Professional x64 Edition compatibility.

  • Cubase SX 3 and Nuendo 3 are the first versions of Steinberg DAW products to be compatible with a 64-bit operating system. Both offer compatibility with Windows XP Professional x64 Edition in the 32-bit range, plus the added support of 4GB memory. This doubles the amount of RAM available to the system, so Cubase SX3 and Nuendo 3, all included plug-ins, as well as the HALion 3 virtual sampler all benefit from the increased memory addressing, in turn boosting overall system performance. Please note that the standalone versions of products derived from HALion 3 technology are not tested in this regard but the VST plugin component can be used in appropriate host applications, such like Cubase SX 3 and Nuendo 3.
  • If any Cubase SX 3 or Nuendo 3 customer wishes to try this system out, a 64-bit processor and a copy of Microsoft’s Windows XP Professional x64 Edition are required. Compatible drivers for all hardware components, especially for the audio device in the system, are also necessary. Some manufacturers offer beta drivers for their audio hardware for evaluation. Please note that Cubase SX 3 and Nuendo 3 have not been fully tested on this platform, and Windows XP 64-bit Edition is not yet one of the officially supported operating systems for these two DAW products.
